Weeks 3 and 4

Here are the updates for the main learning areas in the last two weeks:

UOI-The students continued to develop their understandings of the friendship concept through shared reading, viewing presentations and taking part in discussions. They created pictures in order to communicate their understandings and ideas. One of the learning engagements the students took part in was “cooking” a Friendship Soup. They discussed the ingredients first. Some of the ideas were: love, hugs, sharing, flowers and playing together. Than the students represented their ideas with drawings on a cooking pot template. After we took pictures of some excellent chefs. See for yourself!

Integrated learning outcomes for narratives in this unit include the understanding that stories have characters. The students read the story “The Bernstain Bears and Trouble with Friends”. They drew pictures of the main characters in the story. Here are some samples.

Here are some photos of whole class learning engagements.

The inquiry continues with investigating the meaning of cooperation and reflecting on everyday events in the classroom and on the playground as examples of the concepts covered.

Language-The students continue to acquire “a sound a day”. They are learning to blend CVC words, listening and recording the sounds in words. They started to use their knowledge when writing and had fun learning to play games with sounds.

Mathematics-The students used their knowledge of patterns to create a pattern quilt that is displayed in the classroom. On the run up to this activity they used manipulative, paper and paint to create their own patterns.

Throughout this unit of inquiry the students are learning how to sort familiar objects in groups. Here are some action photos from the engagements.

As part of integrating technology in the classroom the students started learning how to use the “EasyBlogJr.” application to create posts on the blog you are reading now. Their posts will be featured under their own name tag. Today’s task was to take a photo.

Last week the students in K2 celebrated Hoang Son’s Birthday. They greatly appreciated the treats and the cake!
